Defimons - open world, multiplayer RPG, NFT pets with attributes

Super excited for this! Love the idea, and I can’t wait to give it a go

As I mentioned above, the current map is just a placeholder.

Our first world, will have 2-3 cities, a small town, a village, and lots of grasslands in between.
Here is some progress on that matter.

We are targetting a vibe of 90s Japan for our first world, with mix of older Japanese culture.

We will keep updating this forum with all the progress we make!

Hey @0xGhosty and thanks for the proposal.

Does the SlothFi team have a prototype of the game? If not then I would like to request we hold this grant proposal until a feature-full prototype is available for testing along with the new map design.

Applications of each launch must have prototyped a feature-full product. Harmony helps incubate these founding teams with product development, fundraising, and talent recruit.

Currently, users can test out the game prototype present on https://beta.defimons.com.

The mechanics of the user movement will remain same, maybe we will add one or two more buttons for interaction and sprint. The map however, will be changed. We had used an open source map, just to build the prototype fast. We’re currently in the phase for development of the city and village dynamics and the new maps will be moved to the alpha release within the first two weeks of 2022.

More features will be added to the game but that will be according to the roadmap as I’ve defined above.

Hey @dpagan-harmony, I’m not sure what you mean by it being a .PNG file.

You can move around the map using arrow keys on laptop and dpad on mobile.

The current map is a part of our final map design, we’re planning to unveil this whole town in one or two weeks, add integration for connecting wallet, and allow users to change names.

During the past few days we have made tremendous progress.
We’ve hired the following people to the team to help us make the game faster:-

  1. Game Mechanics Designer - We’ve hired someone who has worked on MMORPGs for 5 years, including a popular MMORPG called Runes of Magic.
  2. Solidity Developer - We’ve hired a solidity developer who is talented and has worked with other successful projects on harmony before.
  3. Pixel Artist - We’ve hired a pixel Artist to work on the map, designing outside versions of buildings like Bank, Hospital and Fruit market.

and 3-4 more people.

We’re also in the process of hiring a blockchain security expert as an advisor and a really experienced game developer who has built multiple online games similar to this before.

Our hirings should finish in a week or so.

Talking about the development of the game.

Interiors of the following buildings have been finished, these are just snapshots of actual game designs that we have internally tested and will be allowing users to enter buildings in a few weeks.

The following portion of the map has been completed, while we have completed 2 more portions like this, we’re still internally testing them before releasing it for the alpha.

The battle system is in very early stages, we’re currently developing the mechanics for the battle system while development of the fight scene designs is also in progress side by side. Here’s a snapshot of the earlier designs that we have been working upon.

We’re also trying to make the game accessible to players who can’t afford other games, because to be honest most players won’t be able to pay 3000 USD to get into a blockchain game, with our game we’re trying to bring the entry point to as low as 20 USD, while giving the same player the chance to capture a rare monster which might be of 100x the value.

We also plan to introduce minigames such as the sunken ship, which will kind of be a street fighter style game. Players would fight for monthly leaderboard and get rewarded. Development for this is in really early stages.

We have finished designing our roadmap, a lot of things that are being developed are internal but we’ll keep on sharing them with users and have been sharing them for the past few days.

This has caused our social media to sky rocket.

“Testnet Launch” means launching a feature-complete product on Harmony Testnet. We define feature complete to include a user interface, connection to a wallet (Metamask, Harmony ONE Chrome Extension, etc.) on Testnet, and can be tested end-to-end by at least 100 users.

Will complete the KYC and the MultiSig requirements in a few days.

On the development side, we’ve deployed the full map of our first town. This is one of the three main locations in our game’s world.

We will employ all gaming and defi features in this town and then expand the map to two more cities, allowing players to roam around and find more monsters and hidden secrets of the map.

Future updates should include, interaction with buildings, NPCs, objects such as benches etc. and metamask integration.

Players should expect smaller changes to this map, bug fixes and the other features that i mentioned before in future updates.

Just wanted to update the community about how much we’ve progressed with the development of our project.

We have hired lots of solidity developers, writers, pixel artists, concept artists, sound artists during the past one month, bringing the current team total to 16. Everyone is working hard towards the development of this project.

Here are some snippets from the current internal development build, these are not final and a lot of things are still missing but we’re trying to push out phase one (profile creation, character nft mint) onto testnet within Q1 2022.

Glad to see all the progress. A little worried that the lack of originality might just create some initial hype. If your gameplay is too close to Pokémon, but not as long of a game or not as fun, people probably won’t invest in defimon long term. Even the method of catching defimon sounds familiar to the safari. Have you guys considered this?

We’re taking ideas from different games that have already existed such as Pokemon, Sims, Hobo Hotel, Streets of Rage etc. Not trying to be an exact one-to-one copy of any game but taking ideas from different games, and then building something of our own.

Even if a player does not own a monster, they’ll be able to participate in multiple minigames which are fun and engaging such as Sunken Ship, Graveyard Guess and Casino.

In terms of originality, our storyline is a different take on what Pokemon is. Players get to choose between different factions, each faction gets them weekly missions that influence how NPCs, and wild monsters react to the player.

We plan to do monthly events that influence the storyline, monsters and the map. As we move forward, we will diverge more from the idea of a monster catching game but a world where you can participate in different activities, games, and much more.

One example of this would be in-game AMAs, currently we’re working on a building called the town hall, where players will be able to ask questions and get answers from us within the game, a much more interactive version of text based AMAs.

The project is still in a very early stage, in our team we have professional writers, game mechanics designer with experience in multiple successful MMORPGs, and our only goal is to give a good product.

We’ve recently deployed our first contracts onto testnet, these allow a player to create their profile, mint an outfit NFT and lock it into their profile. These have been tested out by 100+ players within 24 hours.

Some other additions to this update include:-

  1. NPC interactions with multiple NPCs around the town of Yorokobi, currently most NPCs have a single dialogue, but this will be expanded into dynamic conversations based on player’s progress in the game.

  1. Weather System has also being fully developed, currently Summer and Rainy Season are present in the game. We plan to expand it to spring, and winters in future updates.

  1. Chat and Profile System has also been added, as mentioned above. Players can create a profile and chat with other players present on the map.

We’re also making headway progress in the development of PvE, multiple minigames and the apartment editor.

Soon, players will be able to add friends, fight and capture monsters, complete in-game missions, buy apartment NFTs, design their apartments and invite their friends into their apartment.

We’re also planning to launch some quests in the coming weeks to give players a taste of the in-game missions.
