It seems this might no longer be a priority for the Harmony team given their latest RPC announcement. For anyone still wondering if you need an archiving node, I can confirm that I was able to run a RPC node for shard 0 using the same config as a validator node.
When testing this out,
- I made a copy of the volume that already had the shard 0 DB of my validator node,
- Spun up a new server with the new volume
- Created a BLS key for shard 0
- Edited the config to open the RPC port to the public and started the node
Once it caught up to the network, I added it to metamask and was able to use it to
- Transfer ONEs and HRC20 tokens between accounts
- Use it on DEXs… For example I was able to purchase WAGMI bonds faster with out RPC issues when they released new bonds on the 2nd day iirc. 😄

In a dev meeting @sahil was mentioning that a rpc node (not sure if it was POKT in peticular) could be run when running a validator and to have a synergertic effect for node runners. I would be very interested in this as I being an unelected validator it would be a good way to keep my node up and running.

I wouldn’t open up RPC on my validator nodes.
You’d risk going out of sync under heavy traffic.

My understanding is that the team is hoping to integrate with Covalent and might be moving away from POKT due to issues they were encountering. Idk if they’re planning on revisiting the POKT integration in the future.
