SMUG Protocol - A Community DAO & Farm Auction Dex with protocol-owned liquidity

The RPC comment is unfair – it’s an ongoing scalability issue. Having worked on cloud infrastructure for over a decade, infra has never been a “solve it once, and it’s done” matter. Like raising a child, something always comes up – we solve it, find the root cause, and ensure the best we can that the error is corrected, and prepare for potential future problems. In recent memory – spike in traffic from WAGMI launch (solved - added 4x more nodes, spread across 4 regions around the world), growing pains with adding Pocket (solved - stickiness, heath checks), failed upgrade (rolled back), AWS widespread outage (plans to switch to CloudFlare) If it’s frustrating to you, it’s more so for us. Would be happy to swap seats for a day. Constructive feedback welcomed anyday.

Look, the RPC comment was in order to make a (hurtful) dig, I can admit this. Although it’s not without warrant, because from users’ perspective we definitely feel the way network works and it’s not as smooth experience as it has been couple months ago. So please don’t say it’s unfair (what is unfair is how you treated smug which I will lay out below).

This dig was made because how hurtful it feels, I truly love(d) Harmony, have been supporting it ever since I bridged first funds here and experienced, not only the tech but the community around. I am personally responsible for bringing dozens of investors to come and try how 2 second finality on chain feels.

I genuinely believe Harmony is doing a mistake here and it feels a sort of betrayal of the values that you presented.

Being part of any chain is not only about “how much money can I make” but also participating in the (permissionless) ecosystem and community and developing it to help it grow.

Smug really, truly did just that. And I admire Nenkov how he has been handling this situation from the start. He did not abandon his project and community whereas I am sure it would have been easier for him. He is a after all anonymous and we have seen examples of exactly that (abandonment) happening here on Harmony. I don’t want to name particular names of those projects but they are there.

This grant was light in the tunnel for the team of people working on smug and community of dedicated supporters. Not because of the money in particular, I mentioned before that Smug could thrive without having the grant itself. It’s because it was seen as a token of appreciation and support for the work being done, it would legitimise Smug and help focus on development rather than constant battle with couple of deniers. And now the faith we had in Harmony and its values is being shattered because of how it’s being handled by the very blockchain that Smug is trying to enrich. It’s like stab in the back.

At the very least you should openly admit that this was absolutely unprofessional on your part. You can literally see other projects being awarded grant in the same manner. I wish this data was immutable on blockchain. This should have no place here if you want to be seen as serious blockchain and compete with so many others.

As far as Smug, it’s not all done yet, it has proven and showed how to march on DESPITE the difficulties and obstacles… I guess the team will need to figure out way to move forward without your support.

PS Just staying on topic

Lastly, please don’t just go to “twitter space” this offer should be denied. Please face your criticism here, like smug does every day, don’t run away.

Also, staying on topic, is all

I would argue we did the same…with every adversity, Smug’s dev examplified that same spirit to try to find the root cause and to fix it and the dev went beyond and even compensated people.

Yet, you would listen to those not even involved with the project than have a discussion with the developer in your decision making. This is all political and against the spirit of defi.
