MyTree v3: create an NFT for your trees

Proposal overview

[Describe in less than 2,000 words on how this will benefit the blockchain ecosystem. Be specific about the goals and outcome of the proposal, with go-to-market and/or user-acquisition strategies if possible.]

We want to utilize the wasted tons of unharvested fruits and vegetables from trees in private gardens in the bay area by connecting the tree owners to the world of web3.

Background / motivation:

Most NFT assets in the crypto space are purely digital. Analog to digital connection is still relatively a new space and our MyTree aims to explore this direction in a meaningful and impactful way.

What Problem are we addressing?

People’s lives are becoming more and more disconnected from the real world. Most jobs involve hours sitting behind a computer instead of working with one’s hands. Most shopping is done virtually instead of in brick and mortar stores. Many relationships now are built around internet dating sites or online gaming. And even workplace relationships have been kicked into the ether thanks to Covid and the prevalence of Zoom. People sense that something is missing in their life and we feel part of what’s missing is a connectedness to the real world and to the earth. But in an increasingly urban and suburban world, there are very few opportunities to create a meaningful and purposeful connection to the planet we live in.

What is Our Solution?

The solution is right under our nose. It’s the fruit and vegetable trees which are baring delicious produce that is either underutilized or not used at all. Most people know SIlicon Valley was mostly orange orchards just a few generations ago. The land is still lush and the climate is still ideal, and whether by choice or not, Silicon Valley is covered with private gardens with fruit and vegetable bearing trees, including pomegranate, avocados, tomatoes, pepper, squash, apples, oranges, loquats, persimmons, berries and a wide variety of other delicious fruits and vegetables. Our goal is to create an online NFT marketplace where people can trade rights to the harvest each year, where each instrument has a one-year expiration date (at harvest time) and the holder of the instrument at expiration has the right to pick the fruits or vegetables (or hire someone to do so on their behalf).

Are there side benefits?

Unlike other NFT’s, in addition to generating revenue MyTree addresses the following core problems facing humanity today:

  • Reconnecting humanity to the real world and specifically to its food source
  • Alleviating food shortages and addressing the rising cost of food
  • Combating global warming by reducing the need for unnecessary long distance food shipment (why buy oranges from Florida when your neighbor’s oranges are falling on the ground?)

What about Covid?

Given that Covid and humanity’s response to Covid have literally changed everything, no plan for the future should ignore the impact of future crises on their plan. We believe MyTree is the perfect security for another such crisis. Certainly, people have talked about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency as a hedge against a future crisis. But when Covid hit, could you have gone to your grocery store and bought food with Bitcoin? Was the grocery store even open? Our MyTree customers will not only have access to a local food supply which they themselves own, but they will have a tradable commodity that would necessarily be in very high demand and not reliant on the fungibility of paper or electronic assets whose value is unreliable and uncertain at best, especially in a time of crisis. With MyTree, in addition to creating a forum to buy rights to fruit and vegetable tree harvest, we will also create an online community where people can barter their produce with each other. So when others are scrambling to find a food source, MyTree customers will not only have bushels of their own fruits or vegetables at their disposal but will have a means to barter some of their produce to acquire a more varied food supply.

Ultimately, we want to enable people to own agricultural / farm assets that are traditionally owned in bulk (acres of land at a time). AirBnb & Uber redefined how the hospitality and mobility industries. We are trying to disrupt farming ownership at scale.

How do we go to market? Can we Scale?

We will send mail and email to single family homes with high potential for having fruit or vegetables (almost all single family homes in the bay area). To scale, we will motivate all of our tree owning customers to recruit their neighbors by offering them an incentive.

Our goal is to prove the model on a small scale before going nationwide. At that point, we will utilize partnerships with various gardening service providers to acquire and retain customers.

What stage of the product or idea are you (and your team) at? Is it live on Harmony and/or another chain? How many active users do you currently have, or aim to acquire? How much funding do you need? What are your milestones? What help do you need, or what gaps are there in your team?]

We are a team of two.

We just incorporated the company and are in the process of launching the first MVP. We will be using the launch grant from harmony to integrate with the harmony NFT ecosystem, build the website and start the initial marketing / outreach campaign. Goal to launch end of Jan 2022

Proposal ask

$50,000 for initial marketing, hiring designers and developers to launch an NFT sale campaign on the Harmony ecosystem.

Metrics for success

We will track conversion, adoption, sales and resales of the MyTree NFT. For the initial launch phase, we are targeting 600,000 single family homes with a garden in the Bay Area.

Reach out to a minimum 300,000 homes using a diverse physical & digital marketing campaign. The marketing funnel should enable us to track visits, conversions, and referrals.

Minimum success target: acquire 60,000 users with a minimum of one NFT per user. That will be 60,000 NFTs minimum success target for the initial phase within the Bay Area launch location.

@mohammad Hope all is well. Unfortunately this proposal does not seem to be ready or complete. Some questions/concerns which come to mind include:

  • Do you have a working prototype ready for launching on our testnet?

  • Can you share your strategy for attracting 10,000 active daily users?

  • Do you have a website and social media presence?

  • Can you tell me why you feel this needs blockchain and NFTs?

  • Do you have specific plots already identified and committed to participating in this program? If so, can you tell us how they were acquired?

We’ll need to address these before the proposal can be considered.

I do hope you come back as you continue to make progress and wanted to say that I greatly appreciate the work and energy you’re putting into an Eco-friendly project.
