Proposal overview

Mission - Help pre-founders with a Chinese background turn their ideas into a reality.

Beta DAO is an open-source, community-led, and self-sustaining community for pre-entrepreneurs. The mission adheres to “innovative talents turn ideas into reality here,” and is committed to building an ecological network for outstanding young people who want to make the world different. Beta DAO is built on the token and based on a Discord server that everyone can get access to and started to contribute. Each member of the Beta DAO will have the opportunity to buy the BETA token(HRC 20), thereby investing in the community after Beta DAO has its Initial Coin Offering. Before that, Beta is going to mint its own NFT(HRC 721) as a representation for the membership. Each NFT can be redeemed for one year of Beta Fellowship’s membership and therefore enjoy all the benefits that Beta Fellowship members have.

Within the community are entrepreneurs, investors, alongside other people from various backgrounds - basically, anyone with an interest in empowering projects that could potentially change the world. In Beta DAO, you can meet like-minded people in your industry, network with investors and successful entrepreneurs, find new partners, get business advice on how to make your startup in better shape, or help project ideas to become reality.

For now, Beta had successfully initiated its community in web2. We have a bit less than 1000 paid members in the community and continue to deliver bi-weekly speaker events. At the same time, we are collaborating with famous venture capital firms, startup communities, and successful entrepreneurs to empower our community. We are now deploying our success in building the web2 community into the web3 world. We are currently building our discord server and planning to make the server public to our members within two weeks. We are also accepting Harmony ONE for Beta Fellowship’s membership on our website. For this part, we will need some help from Harmony since the current Harmony Pay WooCommerce Plug-in does not work.

Mandates
Community - Onboarding entrepreneurs, investors, and people who are interested in contributing to startup ideas to help pre-entrepreneurs.

Education - Teaching courses on the essential materials that pre-entrepreneurs must know.

Bounties - Letting each of the DAO members empower each other’s startup ideas and get rewarded

Community: There will be community-building events, mentorships, online open platforms for members to engage with each other. The community will be based on a Discord server that everyone can join. It’s a platform for all the members to communicate and connect. The Discord channel will be linked with the official Beta DAO Twitter account for announcements. The governors will also host community calls on the Discord channel. Within the community, Beta DAO members can meet other people that share their values.

Education: We provide education through recorded lectures, seminars, workshops, and various events among community members. Here, you can learn about how to implement your idea into reality. Members will also have the chance to participate in real-life projects to learn through the process. Starting from March 15, we are hosting our Pre-entrepreneur spring cohort in our discord server.

Bounties: The bounty economy is one of the core values that Beta DAO can deliver to its members. The bounty board allows Beta members with sufficient tokens to post the task and reward for other members to contribute to his project. Whoever wants to contribute to the bounty task and claim the reward should first hold a sufficient amount of token in his wallet and staking the same amount of token for the project as the reward. If the task is not fulfilled, then the staker will be punished by losing all the tokens he staked for the project.

Yunfei Ma: Yunfei has a CS background and led Growth for Microsoft/Alibaba. He also had a VC stint with ZhenFund. Now he talks to users and builds products at Beta Fellowship.
Jane Yang: Jane came from a traditional finance background which she used to intern at Morgan Stanley and worked at venture capital. At the same time, she is the operation lead at a non-profit organization called Web3 Collective.
Jeremy Gao: Jeremy is one of the team members at Beta Fellowship. He has previously interned in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Venture Capital, Wealth Management, Private Equity, Education, and 3 different start-ups. He founded the largest Global Chinese Student Investment Competition.
Angie Li: Angie is a product designer with a background in computer science, psychology, and information management. She previously interned at MyCase and now works as the lead designer at Beta Fellowship. She established the Beta Champion program and collaborated closely with users to create a user-centric community.
Yifei Chen: Yifei has a mixed background in systems engineering, marketing communication, and data science. She enjoyed building products for startups (e.g. TikTok, Coursera) and is now a data scientist working on growth products at Meta. She led the speaker series at Beta Fellowship.
Fang Yang: Yangfang graduated from Stanford University with a strong background in data science and an understanding in the growth of entrepreneurial firms. As a statistician/data scientist in a Top tech company in Silicon Valley, she is now the head of the algorithm for Beta Fellowship to provide super exciting features.
Issac Yin: Isaac has degrees in CS and Math. He currently works as an SWE in a state university. With a strong passion for innovation, he worked in several start-up companies since 2014. Now he is the head of content at Beta Fellowship.
David Chi: David graduated from UC Berkeley with a background in computer science and economics. With a strong passion for blockchain/crypto, he’s worked on the strategy side for several projects and companies since 2018. Now he leads product development at Beta Fellowship
Yu Fan: Yu Fan is an undergrad student, has a strong interest in art and philosophy and focuses on beta’s community building.

Initially, we were trying to use the Harmony Pay WooCommerce plug-in, but that does not work. Our team found another Metamask WooCommerce plug-in but that one does not support Harmony ONE. Is there any suggestion on how we can solve this problem?

This DAO is very interesting and I think we are almost there to help fund you.

As a reminder - we should always make sure to review the DAO Funding Guidelines and see how your proposal can fit into the Guidelines.

The entire post has relevant information - but, in particular, for a Bootstrap Grant, you should focus on the following:

1. Mandates: 3 mandates. Specific. Precise. Each mandate to have two sub-clauses to provide further clarification on these mandates. All three mandates and their sub-clauses should fit within a tweet.

   1. EXAMPLES:

      Developer DAO:
      Support - Resolve daily issues on forums & channels, drive weekly meeting agenda
      Bounties - Prioritize bugs & features with task management & contributor retention
      Advocacy - Hold workshops & events, content marketing with talks & blogs

      Basic DAO:
      Timesheets - Help contributors track work hours & deliverables in public
      Payroll - Setup paid challenges, wallets, streaming payments & taxes
      Reviews - Follow up performance feedback for bonus or penalty, rage quits, or kicks.

2. Deliverables: Looking forward for the next 3 months only, identify key deliverables directly tied to the mandates of your DAO that you will be focused on accomplishing. Be specific. Chart, in steps, how you will get from where you start to delivering your goal.

3. Metrics: Quantifiable and verifiable. List the “stretch goal” metrics that you and your DAO will be using to measure your impact in furthering your mandate. Low bars of success indicate a certain level of disengagement, while high bars and stretch goals indicate confidence in yourself and your community to accomplish that about which you are passionate.

4. Governors: List the 9 governors that will start your DAO. NOTE: As we have said in the DAO Funding Guidelines (Guidelines for Harmony Grants) being a governor is not about having a part-time job. Think about your three mandates and try to find passionate individuals that have the skillset and expertise to help you accomplish those goals.

5. Gnosis Safe Multisig Wallet: Establish a multisig wallet that requires 5 out of the 9 governors to approve the disbursement of funds.

6. Schedule the Next Election: DAOs are not kingdoms. The initial governors do not rule by divine right, nor are they supposed to be “Governors-for-Life”. DAOism is about community. About passionate participation in projects. It is vital that we have a regular rotation of community members experiencing the responsibility of managing the DAOs treasury.

Some of these, you have. I would encourage you to modify your post to add clear, measurable metrics to your 3 month deliverables. I would also encourage you to post when your first election will take place.

Specifically, the 6 month term. In order to receive a DAO bootstrap fund there is particular criteria that needs to be met.

Governors are recommended to participate in 3-month election terms, suggest peer bonuses via performance feedback, 80% passing votes, and openly tracking timesheets and deliverables for each member.

Would the governors of the current Beta DAO be open to having 3 month terms as recommended, here.

Hi just a quick update, we hosted an event last night and there were 140+ people attending. We are starting the spring cohort for pre-entrepreneurs on Discord on March 15 (2 days later). We want to bring more people on-chain through the spring cohort, now we have 120+ people registered. Is there any additional information you need?
