Proposal overview

Favelas in Brazil are places culturally and artistically extremely rich in talent, but due to external problems, many of talented artists lack the recognition, education and infrastructure needed to boost their careers.

Following the ETH Rio Hackathon, where we were one of the winners, our team created FavelART to empower marginalized artists and give economic opportunity to them through Web 3.0 technologies.

FavelART is a marketplace focused on brazilian artists from marginalized communities, such as favelas, where they can seamlessly create and sell them digital arts via NFTs, meanwhile users can buy NFTs on our dedicated platform with low fees of 1% (For comparison, OpenSea charges 2.5%).
Moreover, we also offer free educational courses to teach these artists about Web 3.0 and its benefits.

We will accomplish our goal through:

Onboarding: provide blockchain educational courses to eliminate the technology barrier that prevents them from accessing Web 3.0 technologies

Art Digitalization: Provide them with the infrastructure to digitalize their art through NFT creation, as well as sell their arts via our marketplace.

We already have a Demo with a working NFT Creation page, and a Proof-of-Concept of our Marketplace, which we will conduct a more detailed design research before fully developing it.

Additionally, after our product is fully launched on Harmony mainnet, we will accomplish total decentralization via a DAO governed by artists and users through our governance token that will accrue value from the marketplace fees, achieving financial sustainability as well.

Hi, @giv , would you have any updates? Thanks!

Thank you for submitting a proposal to Harmony’s $300M Ecosystem Fund. Allow me to be your representative on behalf of the Grants committee. We are in the process of reviewing your proposal.

Please review some of the existing marketplaces on Harmony, as well as the current implementations of NFT minting capabilities on Harmony. See HarmonyUniverse.one for some hints on where that might be, and the Harmony Marketplace SDK.

Circle back on this thread when you have a more detailed plan on how to implement this, how to re-use existing code/platforms, and how we’ll be breaking through the tough physical entry (and safety) barriers of the favelas. We don’t wish to put anyone in harm’s way.

We would also love :blue_heart: to have the Harmony community participate to ask questions, offer support in any way possible, and provide feedbacks.
