Name of Project

[Web3Grad - A Web3 coding academy]

Proposal overview

Hello, All,

Please find below our proposal to change the future of Web3 together!

Before getting into the detail, just wanted to thank first some people for the encouragement, time and patience in hearing us, and providing active guidance and feedback.

The first words go obviously to Stephen Tse, during a couple of face to face meetings in Lisbon, about 2 months ago, and his kind words and enthusiasm in seeing this proposal coming to life.

Then a special mention to Biosensei and Harmony Portugal DAO, as well as Abhi, who have been great in providing the necessary support.

And to all the community, who is doing a fantastic job in taking HarmonyOne to the next level!

Web3Grad - the Web3 coding academy

Please come revolutionise Web3 with us!

Application type - Partnership

Web3Grad’s mission:
Empowering the next generation of Web3 developers
by
Up-skilling eager to learn people to Web3 developers, either within their own company or placing them in an avid blockchain employer

Alignment of Vision with HarmonyOne
Harmony One is a key player in Web3, and the alignment of vision and purpose with Web3Grad is perfect

  • Harmony is building an open consensus platform to 1000x the world’s decentralized economies
  • Harmony’s platform is geared for delivering impact at global scale, much like Web3Grad, simplifying things and bringing well-being to and empowering all participants
  • The alignment of vision and purpose is surprising and Web3Grad would like to contribute to the excellence of the team and the ecosystem

What’s in it for HarmonyOne?
Make an impact on the Web3 ecosystem by:

  • Having an effective tool to train Web3 developers at scale, with customised content for HarmonyOne’s specific ecosystem
  • Increasing critical mass of knowledgeable Web3 developers, making it easier to develop additional projects on HarmonyOne’s
  • Marketing and influencing directly first comers to Web3 dev world
  • Being the first sponsor to Web3grad’s model for producing Web3 developers at scale
  • Reinforcing HarmonyOne’s positioning of creating well-being at global scale, and supporting bold ideas
  • Learning first hand with us how it works and fine tuning the process
  • Have fun while doing it!

Proposal overview
Web3grad is a coding academy that produces qualified Web3 developers quickly

  • Lets existing Web2 developers up-skill to Web3 and find better jobs
    • Unique streamlined approach with quick, high engagement and to the point sprints
    • One stop shop on training and applying for a new job
  • Provide trained talent availability to employers, enabling growth
  • Lets companies up-skill existing talent, enabling new business while increasing motivation and reducing attriction
  • Allows Web3 protocols to increase their talent footprint in the ecosystem, fostering increased adoption

Right now, we are running a Minimum Viable Product to demonstrate that we can:

  • attract Solo Coders and determine the required marketing investment
  • run effective sprints with sky-high Net Promoter Score, learning and iterating
  • attract sponsors from Web3 protocols
  • effectively place developers at Begging Companies and charge for it
  • attract a corporate to sponsor an internal up-skill sprint
  • scale the process massively

Then we scale massively while expanding to adjacent content areas (testing, architecture, integration, …)

The Team

Proposal ask

We would love to get HarmonyOne’s support for running the MVP by helping sponsor the first batch:

  • Some “people bandwidth” to engage with candidates and help put together the final challenge/hackathon
  • Some curated content
  • Help promoting & marketing Web3grad’s batch in the community
  • $25k sponsorship, to be used on Marketing, Community, Content and the final challenge/hackathon

Metrics for success

Get to end of a batch with a cohort of ~20 people trained on Web3/HarmonyOne development

Great proposal. how long is a cohort?

Hi, Paula.
We’re planning a cohort of about ~20 people for this first run in “MVP”-like mode to validate assumptions and make sure we can scale massively.
Happy to go into the detail, please let me know.
Thanks!
Happy

you ok for me to DM you?

sure! Perfectly alright!

Can you breakdown the costs here?

Sure, @Jacksteroo !
With pleasure!
We’re thinking:

  • 45% in Marketing
  • 20% for the Final Challenge/Hackathon
  • 20% for Community management
  • 15% for helping with Content setup

Thanks!

HarmonyOne team,
Just wondering if there’s a process or timeline for the submissions…
I’ve posted the original request on Feb 16, a month ago, and the last iteration from the team dates back to March the 4th. Is there a consideration period for the community? Should we expect an answer shortly?
Thanks!

and how long is a cohort here? 20 students seem like a relatively small class. how big do you intend to scale up to?

Hi, Hakwan.
(I’ll assume the comment is for Web3Grad)
After we run this first cohort in sort of MVP mode (that’s why we want to limit it to ~20 people so that we can control and validate every aspect), we are going to:

  • Increase cohort size to ~30-40 people - we believe that we can maintain a high level of engagement
  • Scale the number of simultaneous cohorts significantly - we believe that, at cruising speed, we can easily have tens of cohorts running at once

Please let me know if you’d like me to clarify any other topic
Thanks!

Can this grant for tuned to be more goal / milestone oriented?

For example, to “Graduate 20 students that are then hired into building within Harmony’s ecosystem?”

Hence the funnel up top is going to be much larger than that.

Sure!
That was the idea in the first place, to have this first batch of people trained on HarmonyOne’s and then transitioning to Harmony’s ecosystem.
Perhaps it wasn’t so obvious in the original text, but the metric for success was “Get to end of a batch with a cohort of ~20 people trained on Web3/HarmonyOne development”
We believe that we can get a pretty high conversion rate in terms of the people that will start the academy versus the people that will successfully graduate at the end, given the engagement we will drive into it.
Please consider the proposal changed for ~40 people starting the academy instead of 20.

Could you please direct us in terms of the process? Should we re-submit the proposal? How long will it take to be approved?

Thanks in advance

We’d like to streamline a certification process. We’ll circle back with you once we get a Developer Program rehashed and budget the right amount of resources and strategic plan for this, with as much help from the community as possible.

Stay tuned. But for the scope of this proposal, let’s pause it for now and we’ll get back to you when we have the plan going later this summer. Hang tight!
