Do you really want decentralization? Of course you don't

So everyone.

Please sit down and listen for a moment.

We really need to talk about governance, because I’m really not sure if people are fully grasping this whole decentralization thing. I’m writing this because I honestly believe YOU not understanding governance is an extremely dangerous thing, now and especially in the future.

As we push forward and become more decentralized, your vote becomes even more important. If members of our community are not voting, then votes for changes in the ecosystem, elections, and everything in between become susceptible to manipulation.

With low voter turnout, it becomes easier for people to manipulate votes, as it’s much easier for people to way in with fake votes, or to ask groups of people to vote a certain way, which becomes less about what EVERYONE wants, and more about who has the most contacts.

Currently, we have an election running for the Community DAO council, so far in around 33 hours, we have only had 37 votes. You might not think this is bad, however, when you think about the fact that the DAO account and all candidates have been tweeting, reaching out on different social platforms, with tens of thousands of people seeing this since yesterday, on 37 took the time to vote. There has been some people that couldn’t vote due to not having the 100 Harmony in their wallet spare and available although voting is free, but, this is still not really the reason why we only have 37 votes so far.

If you want to be part of this community, and if you really want to make a difference and ensure that we move forward correctly in a way that the community really wants, then please take the time to vote when you see ANY governance votes you can participate in.

If you would like to vote on the community DAO elections then please visit the following link.

If you had 100 Harmony available in a wallet at the time the snapshot you was taken, then you can vote.

You can click each of the candidates’ names and see their candidacy post to see why they think that they should have a seat as a governor. Please vote for more than one person. And please chose wisely.

With governance, we really do have a way of being part of the decisions that shape the future of the Harmony protocol. Do not take this for granted. You can make a difference.

Never really thought about this.

Why is it that there is a requirement of at least 100 ONE to vote?
I am still learning how to understand the depths, pros, cons, strengths, and weaknesses to a DAO system. Do you think it’s maybe very early so the network effect of voting in itself isn’t strong?

I am still trying to learn.

When there’s a minimum required for voting it makes it harder for votes to be manipulated, also 100 is the minimum for staking also.

I think it’s mostly due to the fact people don’t believe their 1 vote can make a difference. People are happy to retweet posts about voting ect but many don’t spend the few minutes it takes.

Of course over time the more people on the network and more people in the community then it will lead to more voting, however, we need our current community members to get used to exercising their right to vote before more adoption. I think it’s imperative before this happens.
