I really like this proposal. Harmony deserves this kind of event.
I think that the venue maybe itās too high-end. I donāt mean that the community doesnāt deserve this at all, but itās maybe too formal. I would prefer something more laidback. Like Matadero, or similar. (Itās just a suggestion).
Also, given the pandemic situation (coming and going, maybe catered boxes is a better solution than buffet).
About the speakers: Do you have some topics already? A hacking area/hackathon in mind?

Thank you so much for this valuable suggestion! I really love the idea of a hacking area - it could be a pretty cool part of the conference, so we will definitely integrate the concept into our plans! Yes, we already have a rough agenda! Our idea is to divide the agenda into the following chapters:
Day 1
1.) Harmony Core Team
2.) DeFi on Harmony
lunch-
3.) DAOs on Harmony
4.) Investors & Growth
Day 2
1.) Harmony Core Team
2.) NFTs on Harmony
lunch -
3.) Staking
4.) Bridging
Matadero seems to be a great option as well - I will also reach out to them! We are also in contact with a catering company, so catering boxes are also an alternative.
However, just that you understand why we came up with the Riu Plaza Espana:
1.) We will be able to rent a whole floor. The place is massive but also very flexible. So, it is very easy to provide a hacking area and other specials. Also, should it rain, it is way nicer to sit inside a warm hotel in the city center that is easily reachable.
2.) From our experience, many speakers, sponsors, and attendees will stay in the hotel as well. After or before a long day, many speakers, sponsors, and attendees came together in the hotel bar or breakfast room and had a casual conversation. Besides, from our experience, regardless of how big a conference is, many people leave the conference during a day. They have to attend a zoom meeting, work, etc. Many venues donāt provide a strong internet connection. People often canāt work there effortlessly (I had this experience at Liscon and NEARCON in Lisbon).
But in the Riu Plaza Espana, we can count on a reliable and strong internet connection! People can work without emerging problems and in doubt can rent a meeting room in the hotel for very important calls.
People can also work from the lobby or the rooftop bar or go on their room - they do not have to take an Uber or the metro to get from one part of the city to the other. So, if a speaker or an attendee needs to do something very important, he is not forced to leave the conference. This will prevent a lot of stress!
Of course, there are more reasons why we came up with this hotel - we mentioned them in the proposal above!

Our summit team just had a meeting this morning. We are really happy to have Harmony pushing our grant forward.
Right now, as we are running out of time, and $100k would not be enough for the chosen venue, we canāt organize a conference in this format for April 2022. We would need to create a whole new concept, and as already mentioned, we are running out of time. Because of this, we would like to plan the conference for April 2023. Therefore, weād really appreciate it if the team could hold the grant for such an event.
With more time on our side and the certainty that we can kick-start the conference with $100k, we could make the conference even bigger and more valuable for the Harmony ecosystem and the community. As we want to continue pushing the ecosystem, that will be our mission during 2022, so we start 2023 with all the tasks done.
We expect the Harmony ecosystem to be much bigger by 2023, so we could bring even more community members and projects together! Besides, the chances are pretty high that the COVID situation will be more relaxed in 2023, which means more people can travel again. In short: Harmony Summit 2023 will have a greater impact with this grant! Also, we like the idea of having Harmony Community DAO manage the proposal and work together as ONE team.
In this case, we would also not need the grant now but in a few months (e.g., November 2022).
