Planet.Health: a learning incubator and unconference for planetary health x web3
Proposal overview
The health of people and the planet are inextricably linked and under threat. Planetary health is a solutions-oriented movement that addresses the impact of human disruptions to Earth’s natural systems on human health and all life on the planet. Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies facilitate decentralisation, transparency, ownership and agency. How can these two fields join forces to respond to collective global challenges?
Planet.Health is an exploratory incubator for people interested in how blockchain technology can be used to improve planetary health. We hope to onboard the crypto-native planetary health community to these tools. Together, we are building an action-oriented platform to respond in practical ways to critical planetary challenges, across three stages:
1. Earth: A series of virtual events focused on shared learning, community building and upskill on the intersection of planetary health and blockchain;
2. Chrysalis: An in-person incubator 21-23 October 2022 at Château du Feÿ;
3. Emergence: Building a shared platform for ongoing collaboration and action, including creation of a DAO.
We’re currently in the process of:
- Developing the learning incubator materials
- Visioning the unconference
- Developing tools and platforms to support ongoing collaboration.
Overall funding requirements
- €15,000 to hire the Chateau du Fey.
- €2,000 to support catering for a 3-day in person event.
- Up to €10,000 to sponsor participants from regions most at risk of climate change and low-income countries to attend and contribute at the in-person event.
Proposal ask
Patron Sponsorship - €10-15,000 - includes:
- One pre-event online education session
- Talk and workshop during the in-person event
- 3 tickets to the in-person event at the Chateau du Fey
- Institutional membership on the planet.health platform
- Logo on all promotional material and outputs including research papers
- [At least a third of your sponsorship will go to support participants from low-income countries to attend the event]
Depending on the funding amount we are also seeking other sponsorship and grants; funding the event will also be supported with ticket sales.
Metrics for success
- 100-500+ attendees over time for the open-access online learning incubator, with materials online for self-study post-event
- 60 in-person attendees at the Chateau du Fey
- 1-2 academic papers exploring the potential intersections and applications of web3 to planetary health
- Forming PlanetHealthDAO
- Mapping of potential L2 applications to support Planetary Health on the blockchain
- Community-building and lasting network to support collaborative planetary flourishing.
