Years later, I decided to come back to the Harmony network… big mistake.
You probably remember the infamous 2022 Harmony Bridge hack — that’s when my DAI lost its peg, and I just left it there thinking, “maybe one day it’ll recover.” Fast forward a few years, and thanks to the “R1 Recovery” project, I had the chance to restore my 1000 DAI back to peg. I thought, “Finally, my luck has turned!” Oh, how wrong I was.
I swapped the DAI to ONE on Harmony and planned to send them to Binance. Simple enough, right? Except I had completely forgotten how to move funds from Harmony to Binance. And that’s when disaster quietly began brewing.
For some reason, I decided to use the LayerZero bridge to move my ONE from the Harmony network to the BNB Chain. Then I thought I’d do a test. First test: sent 500 ONE from BNB Chain to Binance — failed, obviously (Tx Hash: link). Second test: sent a small transfer on Harmony — worked perfectly (Tx Hash: link).
Thinking I had figured it out, I bridged again from BNB to ONE. Except… the bridge transaction had failed. My ONE coins were still on BNB Chain. But I saw my ONE balance in MetaMask, assumed I was on the Harmony network, and without double-checking, sent them to my Binance ONE deposit address. Of course, the transfer happened on BNB Chain, meaning as far as Binance is concerned, those ONE coins simply don’t exist.
The result? My ONE coins are not on Harmony, not on Binance, and not in my wallet. Just another unlucky chapter in my long history with Harmony since 2022. Is the network cursed? I don’t know — but it’s definitely not lucky for me.
