Artemis Academy
Proposal overview
Artemis Academy is built by the world’s leading web3 veterans. We’re creating a top-tier, end-to-end educational program that not only teaches the next wave of web3 recruits, but also enables them to create the future of web3 innovation.
We are a borderless, open source, open access, structured “education + investment” program. Artemis combines cohort-based online education for experienced engineers alongside an enhanced YC-type incubator for web3/DAOs, which invests in founders or places them to work inside top web3 organizations. The program welcomes participants into a network of several top Defi builders, partners, and investors in the space.
At Artemis, we pride ourselves on our high standard of academic excellence, our collaborative community-driven ecosystem, our ethos, and our dedication to web3. We offer more than just education: our well-rounded approach strives to arm our students with a network of mentors in order to harness their greatest potential in a sustainable, and ethical manner.
Led by Wartull (early contributor at OlympusDAO) our founding team consists of experienced developers, teachers, strategists, Olympus contributors, and web3 veterans.
We also have significant members of the web3 community onboard as advisors and investors, including the founder of one of the largest DAOs (Zeus at OlympusDAO, $0.5B marketcap), one of the largest stablecoins (Sam K. at Frax Finance, $2.6B marketcap), founder of one of the largest decentralized exchanges (Maki at SushiSwap, $1.7B marketcap), and several other well-known top Defi investors (Scoopy from Alchemix, Nick Chong (ex-ParaFi Capital). Additionally, Artemis is advised and invested in by CodePath, which has a decade long track record of successfully training web2 engineers at FAANG companies and elsewhere.
At the onset our go-to-market strategy is reliant upon on our network. These folks are helping to spread the word and are actively driving students, teachers, and partnerships our way. In the future, we have plans to develop a larger social media presence, implement strategic marketing initiatives, and continue to partner with entities that enhance our funnel.
By working with Harmony:
-
Artemis Academy can provide Harmony with specialized web3 related courses. For example, Harmony may be able to coach Artemis students and graduates on ‘how to build’ within Harmony’s ecosystem.
-
Artemis Academy can provide Harmony with a direct pipeline of web3 talent.
-
Artemis can also co-host AMAs or educational type events for the broader Harmony community.
-
Harmony may provide resources to improve the quality of Artemis Academy courses and student experience, for example:
- Harmony may guest lecture 2-3 sessions on topics such as tokenomics, building on the Harmony ecosystem, etc.
Artemis is starting with an initial ‘Proof of Concept’ (PoC) starting May 2022 and running for 8-weeks. The program is immersive ~30 hours a week between sessions and projects. The program includes live sessions with expert instructors as well as with industry leading guest speakers and mentors.
Over the course of the 8-weeks, the program will cover everything a student needs to know about DeFi through hands-on project-based learning: ranging from developing high-scale decentralized financial applications with Solidity smart contracts to token economic design and web3 contract security best practices. Following the 8-week program, participants will have an opportunity to pitch their company/DAO to a panel and receive up to $1M of seed capital from Artemis and its investors.
Following the PoC, our first official cohort will launch in September 2022.
In 2023, we plan on running multiple, simultaneous, bootcamps across a broader range of educational topics. However, our focus is always quality over quantity and therefore, we will strive to keep class sizes small (no greater than 20 students in each bootcamp).
Key milestones include:
- Successful launches of our PoC and 1st cohort bootcamps
- Ensure cohort experience and curriculum are standardized and repeatable
- Establish stable talent pipeline over long run (candidates come in, kick ass founders/ web3 recruits come out)
- Expanding curriculum into other technical and non-technical courses, including weekend courses and corporate bootcamps
- Corporate placements + founder investments + corporate bootcamps lead to a sustainable program.
What we need help with:
- A funnel of high quality students
- A funnel of high quality teachers and teaching assistants
- Partnerships that facilitate placements of our students at top web3 companies
- Partnerships that help provide an ever-improving student experience
Proposal ask
$50,000
We intend to use ⅓ of the Harmony grant money to increase the number of financial hardship grants offered to each Artemis cohort. As we currently offer 1-2 financial grants per cohort, the Harmony grant will allow us to offer more opportunities to those unable to afford tuition, furthering our collective goal of open access.
Second, we’ll use ⅓ of the grant money to build our admissions platform (Noir). The Noir platform is intended to not only streamline our admissions process, but also serve as a free learning tool. Both applicants and non-applicants can engage with Noir; they’ll be asked to perform tasks in Solidity and review 30+ hours of curated ‘pre-work’ material. This provides an equal opportunity for everyone to develop a general understanding of web3.
Lastly, we’ll use ⅓ of the Harmony grant to build out our open source knowledge base. This would involve hiring writers and drafting a wide array of educational content that appeals to new web3 entrants as well as more experienced developers.
Metrics for success
Knowledge rooted in integrity, quality, and innovation
The success of Artemis is a reflection of our student success. Our goal is to encourage keen grit and fortitude in order to maximize student potential. The Artemis program does not begin when students graduate but rather, the moment students first apply for the course. Teachers and mentors will foster students’ ideas within the parameters of the syllabus, helping students execute on the vision from day 1. This allows our students to choose a tailored post-graduation success plan. We strive to have the Artemis ethos reflected in our students and their future projects. It is of the utmost importance that our students build projects that are aligned with serving the crypto ecosystem for public good.
In addition, Artemis’ success criteria can be measured by:
- An increasing number of applications/ demand for Artemis cohorts
- The number of successful Artemis student placements at web3 companies
- The number of successful investments Artemis makes in our student startups
Lastly, there’s a success criteria that we strive for that is, admittedly, a bit hard to quantify. We strive for our students to feel like they’re part of an elite, kick ass network. We want them to become arbiters of the Artemis brand, upholding the ethos, and keeping each other in check as they build the future of web3.
