Proposal overview

LearnWeb3 DAO is the fastest growing, and best, education platform to onboard new and experienced developers onto Web3.

In less than a month, we have grown organically to over 10k on socials and ~5k students registered and taking lessons on our website and buidling with the community in Discord.

Our team is seasoned with years of experience, having held positions at Coinbase, Ceramic Network, Dapper Labs, Metamask, etc. and contributed open source to W3C, Hyperledger Foundation, and more.

We were already, individually, helping friends and family onboard web3 for years, and decided to get together to formalize and structure it into something that is now known as LearnWeb3 DAO. Before doing this, we looked at existing alternatives, and realized that good education options are paywalled or limited, and free alternatives are not up to what we have come to expect from web2 edtech.

We focus on the “why” more than the “how”. Our students learn a mixture of conceptual and practical topics, and get tested on their knowledge after each level. This has created a great feedback loop.

We are built on the core belief that education must be inclusive and free for all students. As such, to keep up with our fast growth, grants are the only way currently to sustain ourselves and keep buidling this public good.

Team

Haardik:
Developer for over 10 years, blockchain developer for almost 5. Previously worked at Dapper Labs and SecureKey, currently working at Ceramic Network as Protocol Engineer. Spent 2+ years deep in the decentralized identity space, contributing to open source libraries for the Decentralized ID Foundation and the Hyperledger Indy and Hyperledger Aries projects.

Justification

LearnWeb3’s content is structured in two formats. Breadth tracks and depth tracks.

We have four breadth tracks - Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. Freshman and Sophomore are out, Junior and Senior are in development with both slated for a Q1 release. These cover a variety of topics related to Ethereum and web3 ecosystem in general and expose our students to a bunch of technologies.

In addition to these, we will have depth tracks that go deep into specific topics.

As part of the breadth track, we would like to introduce Harmony as a Layer 1 blockchain solution, and introduce users how they can bridge their tokens over from ETH to Harmony.

In addition, and the larger scope of work, is that we would like to create a depth track for Harmony that covers the following topics:

  • What is Harmony?
  • What is Sharding?
  • How does Harmony get a secure randomness source on chain?
  • What is Effective PoS, and how does it work?
  • Compare Harmony to Ethereum
  • Create an account, connect to Harmony, get some ONE
  • Horizon Bridge
  • Configure Hardhat for Harmony
  • Deploy an NFT collection on Harmony (topic may change, but similar level of complexity)
  • Index Harmony with The Graph

Metrics for success

We want to introduce Harmony in the breadth track in our Junior track by end of February, ideally. The depth track would be slated for completion in Q2 of this year. All the levels also require us making skill tests for each. For conceptual levels, this means having scored quizzes. For practical levels, this means writing automated verifiers that can verify a deployed subgraph and/or a deployed smart contract.

Please, review our DAO Funding Guidelines and ensure your proposal meets the criteria necessary to be considered for a Harmony DAO bootstrap grant.

The entire post has relevant information - but, in particular, for a Bootstrap Grant , you should focus on the following:

  1. Mandates: 3 mandates. Specific. Precise. Each mandate to have two sub-clauses to provide further clarification on these mandates. All three mandates and their sub-clauses should fit within a tweet.
  2. EXAMPLES:

Developer DAO:
Support -
Resolve daily issues on forums & channels, drive weekly meeting agenda
Bounties - Prioritize bugs & features with task management & contributor retention
Advocacy - Hold workshops & events, content marketing with talks & blogs

Basic DAO:
Timesheets -
Help contributors track work hours & deliverables in public
Payroll - Setup paid challenges, wallets, streaming payments & taxes
Reviews - Follow up performance feedback for bonus or penalty, rage quits, or kicks.

  1. Deliverables: Looking forward for the next 3 months only, identify key deliverables directly tied to the mandates of your DAO that you will be focused on accomplishing. Be specific. Chart, in steps, how you will get from where you start to delivering your goal.
  2. Metrics: Quantifiable and verifiable. List the “stretch goal” metrics that you and your DAO will be using to measure your impact in furthering your mandate. Low bars of success indicate a certain level of disengagement, while high bars and stretch goals indicate confidence in yourself and your community to accomplish that about which you are passionate.
  3. Governors : List the 9 governors that will start your DAO. NOTE: As we have said in the DAO Funding Guidelines (Guidelines for Harmony Grants) being a governor is not about having a part-time job. Think about your three mandates and try to find passionate individuals that have the skillset and expertise to help you accomplish those goals.
  4. Gnosis Safe Multisig Wallet : Establish a multisig wallet that requires 5 out of the 9 governors to approve the disbursement of funds.
  5. Schedule the Next Election : DAOs are not kingdoms. The initial governors do not rule by divine right, nor are they supposed to be “Governors-for-Life”. DAOism is about community. About passionate participation in projects. It is vital that we have a regular rotation of community members experiencing the responsibility of managing the DAOs treasury.

following up here with you @haardikk21 :blue_heart:

A reminder of our updated DAO Funding Guidelines.

Due to the lack of activity on this thread I am going to decline this proposal without prejudice. @haardikk21 please feel free to submit a new proposal following the DAO Funding Guidelines at your convenience.

Thank you for your time and interest!
