BoredJobs DAO - NFT Licensing Marketplace, Built On Harmony

Name of DAO

BoredJobs DAO (think Bored Ape Yacht Club!)

Mandates

Support Talent: Prepare NFT characters for work, help them land good paying jobs

Find Customers: Reach organizations that want to license NFT IP, assist them in finding the perfect character for the right value

Add Value: Verify ownership of assets through Harmony NFT Passport, facilitate Talent and Customer in signing contracts and transferring payment

Overview:

Most NFT owners want to HODL their prized collections. But what if they could also earn passive income by putting their NFT’s to work? Right now brands, content creators, and game developers are looking to access popular NFT characters for their campaigns, productions, and game titles, but don’t know where to look and can’t justify spending $300k on a JPEG.

Our project creates a job board marketplace, matching NFT owners with organizations that want to license the IP.

By using Harmony NFT passport to verify ownership and the Harmony Bridge to migrate assets, we can provide a frictionless experience across many chains and many character collections.

With BoredJobs DAO, NFT Owners can:

  • List their asset and prove ownership
  • Set restrictions on what type of “work for hire” they are looking for
  • Set their prices
  • Accept/Decline offers
  • Manage/sign licensing contracts
  • Get paid quickly

With BoredJobs DAO, Organizations (business, production teams, game developers, etc) can:

  • Access the job board and post their job listings
  • Search available characters by a variety of filters
  • Negotiate terms with NFT owners
  • Manage/sign licensing contracts
  • Manage payouts

Example scenarios:

  1. Imagine a game developer needs characters for his game and he wants to add a Bored Ape. He browses the job board, finds the PERFECT BAYC character to fit his scene, negotiates the licensing rate with the owner, signs the contract, sends payment, and POOF–they’ve got their character!
  2. Envision a new cereal company wants a CryptoPunk to be the face of their new box. After accessing the job board and listing their pitch, the perfect CryptoPunk applies. Within minutes they’ve finalized the contract and the creative teams are starting work drawing up the box designs!

Initial NFT communities to focus on:

Bored Ape Yacht Club, Crypto Punks, WoW, Azuki, Gutter Cat Gang, and more.

Who are we?

The core team behind this project is Mousebelt Labs. For over 4 years we’ve worked to grow the greater blockchain ecosystem through: education (ex. 100+ schools, funded 1st blockchain course at UCLA), accelerator investments (ex. 1st batch company, Stardust, recent Series A, see here), and partnerships (ex. 30+ top blockchain/finance companies joining our education alliance (Mastercard and Ripple's Xpring Join Industry Group to Promote Blockchain Education - CoinDesk).

For the last 18 months, we’ve significantly increased our efforts in the crypto-focused media department (portfolio here). This has included: events (top web3 events, 300+ top crypto industry speakers, called ReImagine 2020. Harmony has sponsored our events), Hollywood grade documentaries (launched COINS, an 11 episode series, hosted by a James Bond villain, featuring 25+ top names in crypto. See portfolio link above), and most recently a web3 studio aimed at bringing BAYC/MAYC and other top NFT collections to life (ex. Paris Hilton x Jimmy Fallon see portfolio link above).

Current Progress

  • We’ve laid the groundwork to bridge the gap between Hollywood and Crypto/NFTs
  • Our team is well known in the NFT community through our work bringing Bored Ape Yacht Club characters to life
    • Video examples:
      • Paris Hilton x Jimmy Fallon fan animation
      • BAYC x Crypto Punks
    • The Ape TV Show - https://www.apetvshow.com
      • Over 500 BAYC/MAYC Applied, over $100M in value
      • Over 100+ BAYC/MAYC signed to cast, $30M of value
        • See full cast on site above
        • Over 65% of the ApeTvShow cast has expressed interest in job placement opportunities
  • Outreach to potential customers
    • Finalizing a deal with a large hardware wallet manufacturer and a top 100 blockchain protocol
  • Outreach to multiple NFT communities
    • Created a popular videos featuring BoredApes, CryptoPunks, and Gutter Gang
    • Creating documentary featuring Gutter Cat Gang and other communities, see portfolio link above

Next Steps

  • Build a job board website to connect NFT talent and paying customers at scale
  • Grow sales team to bring in more client partners that want to pay to license NFT talent
  • Attract additional NFT talent from a variety of communities

Metrics

To start, we plan to initially focus on these top NFT collections: Bored Ape Yacht Club - 30k, Azuki - 10k, WoW - 32k, Crypto Punks - 10k, Gutter Cat - 40k = 122k Total NFT’s.

For weeks 1-12 pre-launch we plan to finish developing the product and on board initial NFT’s and licensing customers through a pre-launch portal. During the pre-launch phase we plan to on board at least 100 NFT’s from each collection (500 total), and at least 15 initial licensing customers.

6-8 months post launch we believe we can capture at least 2.5% (3,000) of our 5 target NFT communities. Additionally we believe we can onboard at least 100 total licensing customers over the first 6-8 months post launch.

12-18 months post launch we believe we can capture at least 7.5% (9,000) of our 5 target NFT communities. Additionally we believe we can onboard at least 500 total licensing customers over the first 12-18 months post launch. This should generate at least 9500 new and active Harmony wallets using Harmony NFT Passport.

As we onboard new users, we will continue to measure specific areas of growth and engagement. This include but are not limited to;

  • NFT Talent pool
    • Growth rate
    • Retention rate
    • Job placement rate
    • Acquisition costs
  • Licensing Customers
    • Growth rate
    • Retention rate
    • Average ticket sale
    • Numbers of campaign ran
    • Acquisition costs
  • Campaign Success
    • Virality
    • Conversion rate
  • Harmony User Growth
    • New wallets created
    • Engagement rate of new Harmony users once in the ecosystem

Sustainability plan

We plan to create revenue from a variety of ways:

  • NFT Talent
    • Fees for helping them book jobs
    • Services; priority listings, getting their NFT ready for commercials use (vectorizing their asset, making it walk, talk, etc)
    • % share of recurring licensing deals
  • Licensing Customers
    • Fees for helping them book talent
    • Services: creative assistance, animation time, voice over bookings, etc
    • Performance fees based on campaign success metrics
  • NFT Creators
    • Strategic partnerships to list new NFT collections (adding value for their collection), resulting in fees or allocation of NFT’s

Revenue will help cover the cost of both business development and engineering staff, grants and dao initiatives to help NFT users license their IP.

How does this benefit Harmony?

  • Horizon Bridge lets users move NFTs & assets from many chains onto Harmony
  • Harmony launched an NFT passport, we believe BoredJobs DAO will help the community find more ways to monetize it
  • Harmony could enable additional yield on NFT’s by allowing owners to put the IP to work
  • Attract celebrity talent into the Harmony ecosystem and grow the brand through pop culture content, reaching the masses.
  • Attract more of the greater NFT community

As a owner of Vampires, Mutant Apes, and Gutter Clones, this would help earn passive royalties!

So glad to have you on board!

Why just HODL? Put these NFTs to work! The Harmony community is strong and the solutions available for this DAO align. Super excited to work with the Harmony team! Lets go!

Would like to see a native Harmony NFT being in the list of initial NFT communities that you would be focused on.

This could be interesting!

Thanks so much for this proposal. This seems to be the next logical step for NFT’s and could possibly be the next ‘wave’ in crypto.

Would love to know from the MouseBelt team why you’ve chosen the path of a DAO for this proposal? How do you see this operating as a DAO? How big is the current community? Would a ‘partnership’ or ‘investment’ grant make more sense? Looking forward to the teams feedback and the progression of this proposal

Thanks for reviewing this. We totally agree about the potential for this kind of project to be the next “wave” in crypto!

Regarding your questions around “Why A DAO?“, this is something we’ve thought about quite a bit. While we believe various centralized companies will play a role in this ecosystem (developers, production teams, content creators, companies licensing IP, etc), we also believe that there is a real opportunity to decentralize and open the governance of an IP Licensing platform to the wider community. For example, as various projects attempt to use NFT IP, NFT holders will (and already are) understandably be quite concerned with how their characters are used and what the deal terms will look like.

As this project matures, we plan to diversify the governance members in a way that represents the interest of NFT holders as well as other creative talent (voice actors, animators, etc). These might include founders of NFT collections, large individual stakeholders (those who own many NFT collections), Hollywood voice talent and management, and more. Structuring this as a decentralized organization is essential to ensuring the NFT IP licensing portal can’t be controlled by any one large NFT collection or party. Centralized organizations present the risk of only promoting work for NFT collections they own, therefore adding more utility only to its own bags. Our thoughts on this are also based on the conversations we’ve had with NFT holders as part of our The Ape TV Show casting call. During this process we spoke with over 500 BAYC (as well CryptoPunks and Gutter Cat Gang) on these issues.

To touch on the size of the current communities, if we look at just BAYC/MAYC, Gutter Gang, WoW, Azuki, and CryptoPunks, we can see a minimum of 50,000+ unique owners of these collections. We believe the DAO can make decisions such as; which NFT collections to feature, partners to bring into the platform, fee % the platform takes on transactions, proposals on how profit is used to benefit the platform (grants, marketing efforts, preparing new collections for commercial viability, producing flagship content, etc).

By creating an open and transparent DAO, we feel that we can grow a strong community base while also gaining the trust of both digital and IRL talent regarding the stewardship of their IP.

Thank you so much for your response to the “Why DAO” question. Really enjoyed reading it, very inspired.

A quick update for the BoredJobsDAO team from Harmony:

The Harmony DAO Ops team will resume approvals and funding on May, 1st. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we learn best practices and navigate the proposal process. In the meantime, please take a look at the updated DAO Funding Guidelines.

note: this comment is not an approval of the proposal

Of course, we can still have an open line of communication here on the talk forum. Also incredibly excited for the REIMAGINE v.12 event. I know some of those people! :blue_heart:

Thank you for the update.

Stream is live now! first guests are Horizon (created apecoin), Harmony, and Algorand!:

@frwrdslosh pinging for an update here. thanks!

@frwrdslosh pinging another time. We’re beginning development and it would be great to have insight. Currently have a potential deal to bring on 3000+/- new addresses to this project. Trying to be patient but hard with 0 update from Harmony.

@Sam @giv @leo bumping this as well

So I think in terms of a web3 business plan this proposal is killing it. I love the concept it could even be implemented into Harmonys current acquisition of Blue APES, which is currently an area of much scrutiny inside the ecosystem.

Obviously the résumé and prior accomplishments of the organization fits the bill, and makes me confident in the execution.

My concern is that this might not be the correct grant application area. To be approved for a dao grant I don’t see where the intent to distribute the work is, outside of the nine governors a.k.a. signatories (moving forward that’s the word) I also don’t see how it betters your DAOs community from an income distribution standpoint. There’s also no governance token or strategy for attracting people to the dao creating a decentralized community that would use a governance token.

The deliverables you’ve listed are of my favorite type, that being revenue generation streams. The importance of this inside of a DAO can’t be stressed enough. Hiwever, tgat should be supported with detailed governance ideation and DAOist operstional principles. We would Love to have you on Harmony, And I’m curious as to whether you’re applying for dao grant is because Mousebelt does intend on decentralizing in the future?

If so, thats potentially awesome as well but I feel like you would need to give a voice to that inside of the proposal. All in all very excited for this project and success however may be a launch grant may be more appropriate. We are discussing with the team currently rest assure will rains shortly

Thank you for the thoughtful response @Chak_Raam . To answer your questions, we 100% plan to decentralize the governors (we’ve relayed that through private conversations to your team). If you check our last Reimagine event, we spoke with some of the top IP holders in the space, this is our network. These are the types of governors over the first 90-180 days we would like to add to the decision making process. Happy to explain anything else. At this point we haven’t felt confident asking our network to join as goverors with no feedback and no insight in to if this will pass or not. Serious people don’t want to always be on a public DAO application until they know it is a sure thing. This is just the reality of Hollywood type industry. Happy to discuss if there is a more appropriate funding mechanism, but we just can’t wait forever. Been telling serious partners for 3-4 weeks now, “waiting on Harmony.” Can’t wait really any longer unfortunately
Also we understand you guys are trying to figure things out, so not trying to be rude
