[Proposal] Solidity Bootcamp by The Phoenix Guild

Name of Project / DAO / Company

The Phoenix Guild

Proposal overview

We are group of women who want to help other women in tech and non-tech roles empower and educate themselves in order to utilize the opportunities in WEB3!

The Phoenix Guild has planned to organize a solidity bootcamp for women who are interested in learning the language and also motivating them by incentivising their learning process.

Our aim is to have at least 20 women from this cohort who are able to attempt projects, bounties and work on hackathons independently.

Our long term goal is to be able to help these women apply for grants and lead their projects.

Solidity Bootcamp structure:

Prerequisites for Genesis Cohort (Starting 18th April - 30th May and 2 weeks Prep+Support for Jobs/Grants)

  1. Familiarity with any one programming language
  2. A score of 60% and above in the ClassMarker quiz for basic programming constructs.

Cohort-size:

Minimum: 20

Maximum: 100

Cohort-type:

Virtual and Asynchronous

What is an asynchronous cohort?

  • Except for 1-2 sessions, all the other study material will be given to you in your inbox/Discord and you can work with those in an asynchronous manner. You would be responsible for your own time and work submissions.
  • There would be office hours by mentors and masterclasses, which are recommended but not compulsory to attend.
  • The Bootcamp, specifically designed to cater to women, allows them to study during their own time and convenience.

Proposal ask

60000 - 70000$

Justification

  1. Content creation and curation - 10000$ ( Videos + Written content + Tests will be created from scratch for most of the topics. Content for some of the topics would be curated based on existing content)
  2. Incentives for learners - 15000$ - 25000$ ( Step-wise incentives for top females who score well in the quizzes.)
  3. Communication and Project management - 10000$ (Manage the sessions, office hours, communication with fellows, support for completion)
  4. Mentorship - 10000$ (There will be multiple mentors throughout all weeks, supporting the candidates technically. Incentives will be based on Milestones covered. )
  5. Masterclasses( Incentivisation is optional) - 5000$ ( Incentivising experts to come on-board for masterclasses)
6.Outreach - 10000$ (Outreach to various tier-2 and tier-3 colleges in India and nearby countries to start with)

Metrics for success

Cohort:

The success metric for the cohort is for the cohort attendees to be able to start working in the web3 ecosystem post the cohort completion. Work could be focused on Solidity or other ecosystems, could be part-time, full-time, in the form of hackathon/grant projects, and so on.

Individual:

Individual success in the cohort is measured step-wise.

  • Every weekly content has associated class marker quizzes that need to be cleared by the individuals.
  • Clearing the quizzes makes them eligible for incentives(based on the funds we are able to raise).
  • As the weeks’ progress, the difficulty of the quizzes will progress. The individuals will get two attempts at each quiz.
  • At the end of the cohort, the individuals would have to submit group projects that will be evaluated by the mentors.

Hey folks,
I am one of the contributors to this proposal and we are really excited to be moving the needle forward on helping women contribute to the web3 ecosystem. Phoenix Guild is an initiative that encourages women to get involved in the ecosystem through bounties, grants, and education. We have developed this bootcamp keeping in mind that there are lots of developer bounties and project opportunities that are going untouched due to a lack of skillset in the ecosystem.
This bootcamp will help women gain that skillset as well as be able to work on Solidity based projects.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this. :innocent:

It is an excellent initiative from The Phoenix Guild, which will definitely encourage the women who wanted to get into web3 but are lost in this space. Highly appreciate this move.

Hello, @Srilakshmi :slightly_smiling_face: :blue_heart:

So happy to have this proposal here on the forum. Thank you for bringing it to our attention and apologies for the delayed response.

Our guidelines regarding the minimal considerations and amounts for DAO grants are explained in the DAO Funding Guidelines. Please refer to those when submitting a Grant request.

Please note that we are currently revising the Harmony DAO Bootstrap program. We believe that a “Minimally Viable DAO” is one that has accomplished, at least, the following three items:

  1. Established a multisig wall with a 5 out of 9 signature requirement.
  2. Held an election for those 9 signatories that includes at least 12 candidates and over 100 voters.
  3. Has issued an “Membership Token” of some sort (a DAO NFT, for example)

When preparing your updated proposal, please take these guidelines into account. :blue_heart:

Thank you and let me know of any questions or comments.

Hey @frwrdslosh ,

Thank you for your response and sharing the DAO guidelines.
We have been speculating creating a DAO and have some ideas around it.

Would love to get on a call and discuss some of the thing that we have been doing and our upcoming Roadmap.

Can we setup a call to discuss about this in detail, and create a meaningful proposal.

Let us know your availability.

Thanks,
Srilakshmi

The reason I brought up the DAO Guidelines is because The Phoenix Guild Solidity Bootcamp proposal was put in the DAO category. In which case the proposal will need to meet the Funding Guidelines in order to be considered for approval.

Is the DAO category still the avenue The Phoenix Guild is interested in? There are several other grant categories such as

Investment
Launch
Partners
Hackathons

Thank you @frwrdslosh . Yes, we are interested in the DAO Category but we decided to not just limit to our current Solidity bootcamp and thought of expanding it out to fulfil a larger mission of education.
We joined hands with a few other communities across the globe and submitted a new DAO proposal here: Harmony Education DAO
