Hello Harmony community,
I would like to officially present my candidacy for one of the governor seats in the Incubator DAO.
My name is Bridget Greenwood, founder of The Bigger Pie, dedicated to building gender equity in the blockchain space. The Bigger Pie includes a global, supportive community of female leaders in the space. We are involved in activities that positively move the needle in women’s participation in this space.
I’ve worked with different actors in the blockchain economy since 2017, both retail facing and servicing institutional clients, gaining an insight into the market place, challenges, pitfalls, regulation and breadth of projects and businesses in this rapidly evolving space.
I’m also co-founder with Dr Amber Ghaddar at The 200Bn Club, an accelerator programme to help female led start ups match successfully with investors.
I came into this space in 2017 because of my interest in Bitcoin and why there was a need for an alternative financial system for people without influence or power to be able to operate in. Eg we had a man made global financial crisis, and this wasn’t the first time that ‘trusted authorities and gate keepers’ hadn’t been trustworthy.
This concept really spoke to me. Then when I started working in the ‘ecosystem’ my eyes were open wide to how this technology could be applied, adapted and used to solve so many other issues across the globe.
Our legacy systems are designed by a few, for a few, it’s why we have a world that needs a paradigm shift in how we operate, what we value, one that includes everyone.
We thought the internet was going to democratise the world, we thought social media was going to democratise the world, but we’ve ended up with 15 men owning 50% of the world’s global wealth and a planet that’s dying.
Unless we have everyone at the design, development and deployment table, blockchain will end up with the same fate.
Women led start ups get 3% of the global VC funding, mixed teams 11% and the rest go to all male teams. If you’re a black founder forget it.
Yet all the research shows female led start ups will produce more profits, with less funding, creating solutions the world needs more of - that benefit communities - value add not extraction.
We also have an issue in the funding world where we’re squeezing start ups to either go unicorn or go bust - meaning that all those incredible solutions that the world needs, that communities need, that bring a better inclusion and sustainability to our planet are being forced to fail, IF they get funding in the first place.
This idea of fast turn around of quick profits, where we’re extracting value - not adding value - is unhealthy.
We have the chance now to bring in value, to bring in sustainability, to bring in values that SUPPORT our communities, our planet, our people. I would LOVE to be part of shaping the governance that will shape our future, and the future of generations to thrive.
*Harmony ONE Interest * To scale trust for billions of people and create a radically fair economy
Creating a radically fair economy is everything, and although I have only recently been introduced to the community courtesy of the wonderful Jovian Browne, I have immediately been impressed by the vision and community and I’m excited to roll my sleeves up and get more involved.
