Proposal Overview

UWU Guild is a play-to-earn (P2E) gaming guild (DAO with a gaming focus) with the mission to onboard the next generation of women into crypto and allow women to make a living through gaming. Our guild will leverage the scholarship revenue share model, in which players (referred to as “scholars”) receive access to costly NFTs through a lending model with zero risk upfront. Blockchain-based games use NFTs as in-game assets to earn in-game currencies and rewards. These tokens can be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies, like Ethereum (ETH) or Bitcoin (BTC) or cashed out into local FIAT currencies. The revenues earned in-game by the scholars are then distributed between the scholars themselves, their mentors (“scholar managers”), and the overall guild.

Problem to be Solved

We believe in financial freedom and economic independence, which is difficult for those who do not have access to capital or educational opportunities. Through P2E gaming, women will be able to generate revenue based on their skill level and time.

Through P2E gaming, users are incentivized to step their toe into crypto, and for many, it is their first experience creating a crypto wallet. The wallet is just the first touchpoint, as gamers learn to use exchanges to swap their in-game currencies to their local fiat, or perhaps stake their earnings in liquidity protocols. Guilds naturally emerged from web2 gaming to organize as players befriended one another and tackled challenges, such as quests or raids, together. Through the guild model an association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal, and creates a sense of camaraderie and feelings of belonging.

In addition to finding community in games and providing the fundamentals for entering Web3.0, revenue from playing the games through the scholarship models can and does make a real difference in the lives of the scholars - in developing countries often providing a higher income than traditional jobs or providing a way to earn from home if childcare or cultural conditions prevent them from going to a workplace.

All that is needed to start is a mobile phone. Approximately 1.7 billion adults globally are unbanked- meaning they did not have a bank account nor access to a similar financial institution. Through P2E gaming, we first strive to provide income but additionally have the ambition to work with our scholars to introduce women to saving, borrowing, and lending through DeFi, creating the foundation for lasting financial freedom. For the unbanked, these DeFi protocols act as replacements for traditional financial institutions and are accessible through decentralized Apps (dApps) on mobile devices.

Humans are inherently social creatures and are stronger in numbers. Our mission is to create an inclusive space where women can find a community. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, the past few years have been difficult for many – not just from a financial perspective, but also due to the overwhelming feelings of isolation and disconnect from society. Web3 gaming is an exciting space for women to feel a part of something bigger as a guild, and craft their virtual identity to express their true selves.

Further, we acknowledge that the gaming industry has not been a welcoming space to women, and has often been plagued by toxic behavior. The adjacent industries of traditional Finance, Technology, and Gaming have long been dominated and shaped by men. We see this as an important opportunity to not only build an on-ramp to introduce women into Crypto and DeFi through gaming but also as a critical inflection point for women to shape the culture of Web3 and find their voice.

Objectives: ‘Our 3 mandates’

  1. Change the Lives of the Guild’s scholars by introducing them to Web3.0 through play to earn gaming allowing them to earn an income and start saving and investing through DeFi.

  2. Community & Partnership: Enable women to enter the P2p gaming space by having a community. This includes promoting women in gaming with a collective voice through the UWU Guild and working closely with Web3.0 games and development houses to ensure that games are launched that women enjoy playing.

  3. Increase the Guild’s Treasury of Assets and token price (once launched). UWU Guild is not just a social impact DAO - It is a solid investment case. We are building financial sustainability into our Guild from day one by building on the example of successful guilds such as Yield Guild Games. We intend our token to be tradable and liquid on external markets, acting like a gaming ETF.

UWU Benefits

  • Scholars will be able to earn revenue with no upfront cost through a revenue-share model.
  • Connect with a network of like-minded individuals, and socialize through community-organized events such as gaming live streams, discord AMAs, and virtual networking.
  • Earn UWU guild token upon Token launch based on their contributions and participation.

Plan and Implementation

  1. Grants, Investment and Fundraising - getting the liquidity we need to get the UWU Guild up and running.
  2. Tailored Market research in a selection of the most popular P2E games and a basket of assets including playable characters and land. Research into legal registration and jurisdictions. Identification of partnerships in the gaming space, other Guilds, and women’s focused DAOs such as Blu3.
  3. Allocate funds towards the purchase of in-game NFTs.
  4. MVP Front End Design and identify partner for backend KYC infrastructure for scholars.
  5. Development of a whitepaper, marketing materials and internal Guild soft governance processes (pre-token governance)
  6. On-going development of MVP Front End for scholars.
  7. Onboarding of the first class of UWU Guild Scholars.
  8. Distribute NFTs to scholars to begin generating revenue.
  9. Re-invest funds from the revenue share into additional gaming assets to grow and diversify our portfolio.
  10. Implementation of a Staking and Governance token.
  11. Full DAO implementation

Investment Strategy

UWU will focus on games with a sustainable virtual economy and will purchase in-game asset NFTs and governance tokens for these games rather than invest in equity. We are focused on investing in the actual game economies, not the game studio companies.

Marketing

We plan to unboard into the DAO a governor who is an experienced social media manager to handle Twitter, Telegram and Discord announcements as well as other social media marketing outreach.

To find scholars we will advertise in the Telegram and Discord chats of the respective P2E games we are involved with. There is currently a very high demand for scholarships because of the lucrative earning potential, and many interested parties already post their resumes asking for scholarships. We will direct them to apply on our site. Once a few scholars have been onboarded, our experience in P2E gaming indicates that word-of-mouth will direct many more to apply.

Proposal Ask

UWU Guild is asking for $100,000 for one year of NFT asset investment, onboarding, development, legal and token engineering. Our mission is to launch our guild with 50 scholars. We plan to launch our guild with assets from Pegaxy, Axie Infinity, KaraStar and Crabada and later diversify our portfolio to include assets from other blockchain-based games to ensure everyone within the guild finds a game they enjoy. Once the DAO governance structure has been set up, token holders will be able to vote on asset allocation and new games they want to see the guild participate in.

Metrics for Success

In accordance with our mandates, the guild will measure success based upon growth in several categories:

  1. Revenue generation and NFT portfolio growth rate.
  2. Rate of women scholars onboarded successfully into Web3 and P2E gaming.
  3. Discord and Telegram social media following growth rate.
  4. Partnerships and advocacy with gaming studios and female empowerment DAOs.

The following milestones are targeted in the first year of launch:

Partners

BLU3 DAO shares our goal to get more women into Web3 with the goal of achieving financial freedom. Their encouragement and support were instrumental in our decision to pursue this project. If our proposal is accepted we look forward to future collaboration and partnership.

I love this project and really wanted it to be a part of the Blu3 ecosystem because our scholars and Blu3 members worldwide can participate closely and have a gaming guild!!!

The Harmony DAO Ops team will resume approvals and funding on May, 1st. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we learn best practices and navigate the proposal process. In the meantime, please take a look at the updated DAO Funding Guidelines.

note: this comment is not an approval of the proposal

Hello, @Christine

The Harmony DAO Ops team has decided to decline this proposal.

We have found over the past year of DAO operations that the organizations that don’t start with a large, dedicated community and a goal to fund themselves tend to have very low success rates. They tend to have a hard time recruiting additional community support and tend to bring limited value to the overall Harmony ecosystem.

The bar to receive a DAO bootstrap grant is now higher than it has been historically. In order to receive a bootstrap grant going forward, DAOs will need to evidence a high level of transparent reporting, robust community involvement and a business plan that reflects a commitment to self-funding. Further guidelines are being finalized and should be released in the comming week.

I apologize that this process has been lengthy and drawn-out and I appreciate yours and the DAO’s patience. Harmony and the DAO Ops team wanted to exhaust every option before responding with a declination.

Do not let this dissuade you or your DAOs passion to build on Harmony. Harmony is integrating new tools to help build a robust DAO ecosystem. I’m looking forward to your success.
