Bricktop is correct and we apologize if there was confusion. This project came about after listening to input from community members spanning several months. In the first few months of the current term, the CDAO council continuously asked for input from the community what they want and without question the number 1 suggestion was a Harmony Landing page containing every bit of info and guides anyone could ever possibly need while navaigating the ecosystem, whether it be a complete crypto newbie, a developer looking to build, or a seasoned Harmonaut looking for info on how to use and take advantage of defi, etc. Countless times, discussions in Twitter Spaces and other mediums turned to the fact that, while nearly all necessary info can be found about Harmony, it is often scattered over many sources, sometimes outdated, and sometimes difficult to find. The community wants a one stop shop where everything they would want to know can be found in a single, easily navigable site. This would include an all-dao portion as well, but the vision has been for awhile now to be so much more than that.
After many discussions, the grant would be used primarily for site design and to pay bounties to the community for the creation of the needed guides. In our most recent meeting , it was discussed that the site design may be fairly simple and not too many pages. Within it would be links to the many different avenues needed by various sections of the communities. Ultimately, the guides are envisioned to be largely built on notion for ease of updating and lack of constant dev updates to a site. The developed site would moreso simply be an attractively designed on ramp to get users to the proper guides.
As for the bounties for the guides, the beauty of this project is that it would be built and monitored by the community first, as well as the DAOs. Community members are often times the first to become aware of new developments within the ecosystem and an open line of communication with DAOs will allow for quick updating of the information to fit the communityâs needs. The heavy bulk of the work towards the guides would be in the initial development of the landing page and is what will require the largest sum to complete. Once the base of the site is completed with updated guides, the work will not stop. However, it will be incumbent upon the community and DAOs to monitor the page for any additions and updates relating to their area of expertise as needed. In our collaborative meetings with the other DAOs we have discussed the need to establish a role to at least one or two governors each term to monitor the pages for needed updates/additions as part of their duties. We feel the amount of time needed to keep it updated once the initial site has been built will be an appropriate use of a small portion of a daoâs treasury each month as the DAOs develop models of sustainability. Also, there have been initial discussions of ideas that could be implemented to aid in funding to develop the page in the future as new bounties and updates are required, such as a tipping bot for example.
Ultimately, the DAOs seem united in that the creation of this landing page falls directly within our mandates to grow our segments of the community. As for the Community DAO itself, I feel this landing page could be the single greatest asset towards our first mandate to onboard users. Also, so much of this project is built around engaging the community and giving them the opportunity to contribute and earn a reward for their efforts, which seems to fall directly in line with what Harmony is looking to achieve. There is a great deal of passion behind this idea among the involved governors and I, personally, would love to see it get the green light.
[Edit: at the time of this post I did not realize the community had not voted on this proposal. I now believe that vote should occur before moving forward.]
My comments are not fully informed on behind the scenes work, so please consider that as a pretext for a few thoughts.
After re-thinking about the proposal, my honest opinion is the project and the presented scope seems very difficult and daunting.
Having said that, with good planning and teamwork, difficult things are certainly possible. In regards to Harmony approval, have the governors considered presenting a proposal that outlines the scope of work and budget requirements in phases? I believe that if the project was planned, budgeted and completed in phases it would be easier to achieve approval and manage within the DAO framework. Limiting governors to completing only one (maybe two) phase per term would allow steady progress on the site, and still provide governors time to commit to other aspects of the mandate.
While I see that a one-stop-shop type site is in the worksâŚI feel the focus should be on areas that are most directly tied to the community mandate. Once the most mandate-pressing portions of the site are planned, budgeted, built out and operational guidelines established, then other areas could be considered based on community feedback. In other words, in the planning stages the phases are prioritized for completing based on their importance to mandate fulfillment.
From a human motivation perspective, limiting governors to one/two phase completions per term allows DAO members to achieve a feeling of finality and satisfaction for completing their portion of the work by the term end date. Completing the work in phases would also aid in transitioning of work from one set of DAO governors to the next and also providing new DAO governor candidates a better sense of the type of work on the roadmap during their term.
Oh and a side-note. It would be great if the site prominently tried to collect email addresses to subscribed to the Community DAO newsletter. The development of a robust list of emails and the continued enhancement of the newsletter would be a tremendous way educate and drive engagement within the Harmony ecosystem.
Again, these are just ideas I am throwing out, and I do acknowledge that a lot of work has already taken place and I may not be privy to important details. Thanks.
The setup is similar, but I like the cleaner, more visually appealing look of Solana . A brief tutorial/explanation of pos/pow, intro. of Harmony in terms of what it brings to the table, value of delegators and validators, etc. in the community section would be a great asset for current harmonauts to bring friends/family members on board. I really liked the little tutorials Coinbase occasionally offered. They were short, very informative, and offered a small reward for completion. The reward is irrelevant. I was impressed by the information those tutorials provided.
Hi, there has been some discussion in the Community Dao twitter spaces and a landing page has been suggested primarily aimed at new users to Harmony - as a means of onboarding new users.
I believe the proposal is to address new users also, not just those interested in daos.
The information new users need is available but it is scattered, this would provide a one stop shop daos and all.
I wonder how well this idea has aged to provide a landing page for new users and put forward the question:
Does www.harmony.one now fulfil this purpose and can be used as a landing page?
I believe it now does and would say it could be more cost efficient to propose or ask for modifications to be made to www.harmony.one to address any areas that may be viewed as lacking instead of creating a new landing page.
This is a great idea and Iâm 100% for it. I thought about something like this months ago and I think I may have forgotten to bring it up. Perhaps we could also have an âAbout Harmonyâ video on the main page of the site with a brief but concise introduction to Harmony, what it is, how it works, its pros over other blockchains, show the family-like community that we have here, etcâŚ
Harmony please get the ball rolling. This would make it easy for everyone to get access to any required information as things would be well organized against whats currently obtainable.
Something of this magnitude would have my support. Assuming I was somebody of importance. Nice work in pulling this together. Sorry, I saw this a bit late.
Hey, regarding your point: Iâm 100% with you. Having one more Landing page would generate more confusion if not properly linked with the main Harmony website. The point is: it seems like theyâre already developing a new website: Bounty: Website redesign (Iâve proposed a redesign and the response was that itâs already in progress)
If theyâre already considering this in the information architecture/UX, Iâd consider this whole topic closed.
I also feel like the landing page should be reconsidered with the community before pushing any grant proposal forward.
I recommend the governors collect the 5-6 best projects from the community and then put them up for a community vote. All projects (for now) should be able to be implemented using existing DAO grant funds. This community decsion-making will give governors clear direction on how to spend time and money, rather than trying to accomplish too much at once.
Having the main information for the community out there, build by the community over bounties whats wished from the Community. And then also all DAOâs having their Notion site on there so the community can come to the site, educate themselve and if wished contribute to a DAO.
The Budget brake down would be the following:
$7,5k for UI/UX
$1k for set up Domain and hosting
$1,5k for the Admin
$10k for content producer
$5k reserve
@ben2k_Stakeridoo I love this idea and itâs much needed. But with all due respect,
I donât see how this needs $25k
The structure as a DAO doesnât reflect a path to sustainability, tokenization, etc. (itâs more a bounty)
I donât see a grand plan thatâs better than our current homepage
We can use SquareSpace, and a design template to start off with, as a POC, and see where it goes. Then we track the utility of the landing page and the effects with, say Google Analytics, and see where this goes.
Right now, thereâs not much of a compelling reason to do so. Iâd like to see some data. In fact, if one feels strongly about this, Iâd suggest that you or anyone else reading this, to actually just build it. You might find out that youâll only be spending about $5K-$10K on it, including a small teamâs time, and submit a proposal for a grant and weâll fund it.
For those reasons, we wonât be approving this proposal until we structure this into a solid proposition. Thanks again Ben.
